FAQ
Mounting and Inflation Safety Initiative
For additional SAFETY WARNINGS see the Hoosier Racing Tire spec catalog at www.hoosiertire.com
TIRE MOUNTING SAFETY:
* WARNING: Mounting of tires on wheels can be dangerous if done improperly. Only trained personnel, using the proper tools, safety equipment, and safety precautions, should attempt to mount tire and wheel assemblies.
* Determine that the tire and wheel are appropriate size and undamaged.
* Use a certified wheel and rim flange gauge to determine the bead size of the wheel.
* Inspect the tire completely before mounting.
* Read all warnings and recommendations located on the tire or tire manufacturers brochures, catalogs and/or websites.
* Determine the tire’s maximum recommended seating and inflation pressure located on the side of the tire and/or obtained from the dealer
* Mount the tire using proper tire mounting lubricant and tire mounting tools.
SEATING AND INFLATION SAFETY:
* Use only a clip-on style air chuck with a long extension hose, remote filler (controls air flow), and an inline inflation gauge. DO NOT use a clip-on chuck without having the ability to control the airflow.
*The tire and wheel must be located away from all personnel while seating and inflating. Use a solid barrier, like a block wall or a tire mounting cage between the tire/wheel assembly and any personnel or bystanders.
* Inflate the tire until you hear and see the beads have seated or until you reach the tire manufacturer’s maximum recommended tire inflation pressure.
* If the tire beads do not seat below the tire manufacturer’s maximum recommended tire-seating pressure, STOP! Release all air from the tire/wheel assembly and return the tire to the place of purchase.
*Once the tire bead is seated, disconnect the chuck, reinstall the valve core, and inflate the tire to the proper recommended operating pressure.
DO’S:
* Always inspect the tire/wheel and valve stem for damage or debris before mounting.
* Always read all warnings and recommendations located on the tire or tire manufacturers brochures, catalogues and/or websites.
* Always confirm that the tire is the proper size for the wheel.
* Always clean the wheel and lubricate the tire with an approved lubricant.
* Always secure the tire/wheel assembly on the mounting machine or in a tire cage when seating and inflating tires.
*Always secure nitrogen tanks.
DON’TS:
*Never use a clip-on chuck without having the ability to control the airflow
* Never use an explosive such as starter fluid to seat the beads.
* Never use unapproved air tanks or tanks made for other purposes.
*Never lean over a tire while seating and/or inflating.
* Never use damaged tires or wheels.
* Never weld or apply any heat to a wheel/tire assembly.
* Never assume that any wheel and/or tire are undamaged.
*Never expose tires to environmental conditions like temperature extremes, exposure to sunlight, electric arc, solvents, automotive fluids, and/or atmospheric pollutants that will accelerate the aging process.
* Never mount tires that have rubber cracking.
* Never use racing tires on public roads.
Mounting of tires on wheels can be dangerous if done improperly. Only trained personnel, using the proper tools, safety equipment, and safety precautions, should attempt to mount tire and wheel assemblies. Failure to follow safe mounting procedures could cause faulty positioning of the tire and cause the assembly to burst with explosive force sufficient to cause serious injury or death.
